The IAO, International Accreditation Organization, was an international quality assurance agency, working to improve education quality standards of organizations all over the world. With its global network of experts, the IAO, International Accreditation Organization, granted accreditation to educational institutions, corporations, professionals and qualified individuals.

IAO's International Accreditation represented an education provider's commitment to delivering quality. It assured the stakeholders that the education provider's degrees & credits would have increased acceptability around the world, should they decide to study or work abroad. The score that an education provider gets under the Points Profile System of IAO gave a competitive edge over all regional and international educational institutes, universities and schools.
The IAO, International Accreditation Organization, was based in Houston, Texas, USA. IAO Accreditation was conferred by rigorously evaluating the applicant institution and its programs, through the unique patented evaluation process based on the best global practices in working-adult education. The thorough examination of the applicant's management, quality of education, processes and methods ensured that the accredited institutions met IAO's global quality standards for the benefit of working adults pursuing higher education.
In 2010, Bircham International University was reviewed and granted Accreditation from the IAO, International Accreditation Organization. In 2014, further documents and a site visit were required for the renovation of the IAO accreditation. The site visit and inspection conducted by Prof. Dr. Sebastian Bruque, Dean of Internationalization from the University of Jaen, in Spain.
Later, in 2015, the International Accreditation Organization (IAO) was shut down. According to Al-Fanar Media and the New York Times, IAO was owned and operated by AXACT Corporation, a Pakistani group investigated for its involvement dealing with selling fake diplomas and diploma mills.

IAO resurfaced in 2017. Since then, the International Accreditation Organization has been operating with no further links with the AXACT Corporation.
IAO contacted Bircham International University offering a renewal of the accreditation. Although, BIU considered that IAO did no longer provide the international quality assurance fostered by its mission. Prof. Dr. Sebastian Bruque, former IAO inspector, was not aware of the latest developments of this organization. Bircham International University decided to keep the IAO accreditation entry listed, mostly because the site visit and review conducted by Prof. Dr. Sebastian Bruque was real and very instructive.
At a time, the IAO’s initiative seemed an excellent way to prove BIU excellency.
