Bircham International University has selected Hong Kong for the establishment of the Asia Head Quarters office. In 2020, BIU got its name and operations approved according to the Hong Kong Education Ordinance (Cap.279) and sections 2 and 3 of the Non-local Higher and Professional Education Regulation Ordinance (Cap.493).

Bircham International University is also a member of the Asian Association of Open Universities (AAOU), an organization involved in the improvement of the quality of the distance learning and online institutions in terms of their educational management, teaching and research. The AAOU is the most relevant organization in the field of distance learning in Asia.
