IACD - International Association for Community Development is committed to promoting participative democracy, sustainable development, rights, economic opportunity, equality, and social justice, through the organization, education, and empowerment of people within their communities, whether these be of locality, identity, or interest, in urban and rural settings.
IACD - International Association for Community Development is accredited with the UN United Nations and have members across the world.
Community development is a multi-disciplinary profession, with practitioners working in very many areas from health to local economic development, adult education to social work, environmental work to community work and much more, at many levels including as agency managers.
Having successfully established the International Standards for Community Development Practice, the IACD has set up program endorsement and accreditation. There is currently no international accreditation system for community development type education programs, and so no standard way for graduates of these programs to have their education recognized in other countries.
Bircham International University was granted membership into the IACD - International Association for Community Development in the year 2020. BIU contributes to community and sustainable development with some of its degree programs in Community & Social Development, Human Rights, Public Affairs, Environmental Science, Sustainable Development, Urban Development, Sustainable Architecture and Sustainable Agriculture.
